M for Money celebrates International Women’s Day 2021 - M4Money Credit Union

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 08 March. It’s an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, remember their struggles and acknowledge how they have been an inspiration in leading movements globally. This event is celebrated in more than 70 countries worldwide.

The theme this year is #Choosetochallenge where women have been encouraged to call out on gender inequality and bias whether it’s at their workplace, at home or in their local community.

The Covid-19 crisis has greatly impacted women in the workplace where many have been laid off, furloughed, or have even had to take a step-down from their roles to accommodate their time to home-school and nurture their children.

According to research conducted by McKinsey & Company, 1 in 4 women are contemplating what many would have considered unthinkable less than a year ago: downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce altogether.

At M for Money, we support International Women’s Day as we believe that women shouldn’t be made to feel inferior to their male counterparts and should be treated equally. Gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive. One of the ways we do this is by supporting their financial wellbeing and encouraging them to become financially independent. By doing so, we can help them:

• Regain control of their money and independence

• Give them the confidence to make sound decisions and express themselves in their professional and personal lives

In addition to this, we are committed to contributing to creating a fairer society through our ethical and affordable loans such as the Child Benefits Loan as well as cultivating a savings culture through changing everyone’s money habits.

We believe that as a credit union we can build a community with equality, which is not just a women’s issue but also a business issue. By choosing to challenge, we can create a more inclusive and alert world.
